Quick answer

The official 1.0.4 announcement explicitly says Moon Sweepers' automatic world backups are stored outside Steam Cloud. The local Backups folder therefore does not identify a cloud copy, a cloud download path or which file wins a synchronization conflict. Preserve the local files before attempting recovery. S03S17

What does the backup folder tell you?

Question What the checked source establishes
Where are automatic Windows world backups? The LocalLow MoonSweepers\Backups directory
Are those automatic backups in Steam Cloud? The developer says they are outside it
How many copies are kept? Up to five full backups per slot
When are they made? One minute into a session, then every 30 minutes
What active-save filenames does Cloud synchronize? Not identified in this announcement
Which side should win a Cloud conflict? No verified game-specific rule supplied here

The distinction matters when moving computers or recovering a world. A cloud-sync status does not by itself prove that this local backup directory has been copied to another machine.

Locate and preserve the local copies

With the game closed, paste this into File Explorer:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\DragDropGames\MoonSweepers\Backups

Copy the containing MoonSweepers folder to a separate dated location and inspect the copy. Leave existing files in place. Use save game location for the exact Explorer steps and automatic backups for the retention schedule.

If the folder is missing on a second computer, check that machine's Windows profile and installed build. Do not create an empty folder and assume it recreates the previous world's recovery history.

What if Steam shows a conflict?

Record the displayed local and cloud timestamps, account, machine and affected slot before acting. Preserve the local files that exist. A more recent timestamp is not proof of a more complete or working world, and the backup announcement does not tell you which conflict option to select.

Use Steam or developer instructions for the specific conflict and keep the recorded details available. This site has not validated a Cloud overwrite procedure, manual restoration or campaign transfer.

What about a co-op host's world?

Agree on the host before the next session and keep that host's local data protected. The shared Upgrade Matrix rule is not a save-transfer rule and does not establish that every teammate has the host's world files. S02S11

For a world that fails on the original machine, use save will not load. For choosing the persistent host and session visibility, see co-op host settings.
