Quick answer

If the Packager will not pack, check that dust was deposited into the placed Packager, record its exact message and inspect its output. The developer addressed “Could not pack a capsule” in 1.0.4 and a separate large-base packing failure in 1.0.5. A stopped belt farther downstream is a different stage to inspect. S03S04S17

Did material enter the placed Packager?

The delivery guides describe collecting handheld dust, then depositing it at the placed machine using its interaction prompt. ShowGamer reports E for the default PC deposit control. Pressing Q to pack a handheld load is not the same operation as using the placed Packager. Follow the current binding and on-screen prompt. S07S08

For a first check, use a small handheld load with the Packager connected to a short route. Observe whether the machine accepts material and whether a capsule appears at the output. Do not infer a packing failure merely from an unchanged sale balance.

Match the symptom to the next check

Symptom Next check
No visible deposited material Correct interaction prompt and source load
“Could not pack a capsule” Installed build, exact error and the official packing fixes
A capsule appears but does not travel Output connection and belt direction
Short test works; large base fails Capsule queues, world size and the 1.0.5 large-base fix
Capsules reach the intake without apparent payment Intake and sale check, not capsule creation

What changed in large worlds?

Patch 1.0.5 fixes Packager failures in large bases with many capsules on belts. It also changes the limit from 10,000 capsules on the ground to 90,000 capsules in the world. The counted sets differ; this is not a stated Packager throughput increase. S04

The announcement does not supply a capsule-count diagnostic command or a guaranteed workaround for a recurring current-build failure. Record the queues and machine status rather than assuming that adding another Packager will bypass the limit.

Test one stage at a time

Keep the same small load and observe deposit, capsule creation, the first belt, each joint and intake entry. Change one failed connection, then repeat. If the same error persists on the updated build, record the machine message, affected save, approximate base size and where capsules accumulate.

Preserve a separate save copy before disruptive recovery. Use automatic dust selling for the full route and conveyor not selling when packing already succeeds. These checks are based on the cited materials; gameplay has not been tested by this site.
